Self-Assessment of Change Agent Role

Description:

This is a monitoring tool that has a qualitative character and involves self-reflection by every GenderTime member. The members of the consortium, who were active in the activities concerning the implementation of the Gender Action Plans, were asked to describe their personal experiences as so called Change Agents for gender equality in an organization, institution, company or department.

Change Agents are persons that play an important role when it comes to changing organizations towards increased gender equality. This definition means that all members of the GenderTime project are Change Agents

Methodological Approach:

The Self-Assessment of Change Agent Role is a tool that collects memories of situations in which so-called Change Agents have experienced negative and positive reactions to their attempts to improve gender equality in an institutional context. It is a tool that identifies patterns of privilege and disadvantage and thus recognizes the existence of a gender order, meaning that the notions and actions of individuals both produce and are the result of gendered power relations.

This tool was constructed as part of the framework of different, but coherent, templates developed within the project. The template consisted of six questions, considered to be the most relevant for the purpose of the tool – to collect data about the experiences of change agents for gender equality.

Benefits:

The aim of this monitoring tool was to document information that contributes to an increased understanding of which factors that motivate academics and practitioners to engage in activities aimed at transforming research institutions into gender equal organizations by asking what are the most effective and efficient drivers for change? The tool also provides a more personal and individual perspective on success factors and challenges, especially resistances.
